Current Story

So what is Maq's current back-story? After much thought, I decided to make it a mix of several back-stories she's had over the years, and added a few new elements to make it interesting.

When reploids were first being introduced, a woman named Eva Berell looked at the roles they were playing, and noted that they were being programmed into old-fashioned 'traditional' roles. Men did the heavy work, while women were stuck being teachers, secretaries, and housekeepers. Deciding to go against this, Berell took the fortunes she'd earned and inherited, and designed three styles of female fighting reploids. All were as tough as their male counter parts, but still very feminine in apperance. The L-style reploids were all big and sturdy, used mostly for brute stength and frontal attacks. The S-style reploids were all built for stealth, and were built of lighter materials. Lastly, the M-style reploids were built for extreme speeds. Berell was toying with making some more styles, with flight and undersea abilities, but her untimely death put a hault to all productions.

Only a few dozon of each style existed, so when the state seized control of Berell's assets, they began to reprogram and sell off the female reploids. Most of them ended up in the 'traditional' roles Berell had been trying so hard to break. But a few of them managed to escape before they could be reprogrammed. They were labled as mavericks, and some were destroyed. But 3 of them, one from each class, managed to remain independant. They all seperated from each other, and went their own ways. The M-style reploid, named Mango, managed to stumble across a rag-tag group of mercenaries. They took her in, and taught her to use her skills for profit. Their leader, a large, bulky male reploid named Maq, was famous across the country for his skills in battle. As such, business boomed. They got more and more members, and Mango rose in ranks quickly. Maq became very fond of her, and she admired him as a hero. He took her under his wing, and trained her extensivly in those moves that only he seemed to know. Soon, she became his right hand, and everyone know that when she gave an order, it came from Maq.

But alas, tragedy struck. In a battle against the hunters, Maq took a critical hit. Though the team of mercenaries managed to retreat and get him back to base, they all knew he wouldn't make it long. The worried Mango never left his side. On his deathbed, Maq gave Mango his favorite weapon, a long double glaive-like weapon. Mango, with a pained voice, told Maq that without him, the business would die; only the name of Maq kept them all going. It was that name that was feared and respected throughout the land, and kept the mercenaries all united under one banner. So, with his last breath, Maq ordered Mango to take his name, to keep the legend alive. When Mango emerged from his room after his death, she was no longer as before. Mango had been a delightful girl, stern but still friendly. Now, as Maq, she was as tough as her namesake, and brooked no nonsense. Everyone, out of respect for the original Maq, made sure to refer to her by that name. And so, the legend of the unkillable Maq raged through the lands.

Mango, now building her own reputation as Maq, began a hunt for her two sister reploids, Lavendar and Silver, hoping to encourage them to join. Her right-hand man, an hardened maverick known as Kaine, assisted her in all her searches and helped to add to her reputation. Together, they began to force the world to take notice that it was no longer just the Hunters and the Mavericks. The Mercenaries were there, and they weren't going down anytime soon.
